The saga of a merchant adventurer in the gold and silver rush mining camps of California and early Nevada Territory, 1830-1911. The sounding was awarded first prize History non-fiction on June 5, 2010 at the San Diego Book Association Awards and runner-up for history at the Hollywood book festival in 2009.    The Sounding is a historical biograpy documenting the life and times of merchant adventurer Abraham Klauber.  The story is compelling and the photographs of early California and Nevada are impressive. The format is a premium hardcover, 544 page book with a beautiful dust jacket.  The saga presents the trials and tribulations of a Bohemia(Czech) Immigrant leaving the homeland by ship for America, crossing the isthmus of Nicaragua, and finally arriving in San Francisco, the gateway to the "Gold Country".  How the man built an empire in Sacramento and Volcano California, located in the heart of Gold Rush. He soon traveled via mule team over the Sierra Mountains to the Nevada Territory where as part of the "rush to Washoe" he opened stores in Genoa, Carson City and Virginia City Nevada.  He was involved with the rising tide and fortunes of the Pony Express, silver mining and the riches of Virginia City's Comstock Lode.  By 1869 he would move his business enterprises to San Diego California becoming one her pioneer founders andcivic leaders.  As a man he was devoted to family, lived a dream and left a legacy for many generations to come.
