The New York Yankees had been America's most successful sports franchise of the twentieth century, but by the mid-1960's they had degraded into mediocrity. By 1974 even a new owner with an obsession for winning and an iconoclastic new management team seemed unable to return the foundering ballclub to the top of the standings. Then an unlikely collection of ballplayers came together on a mission to return the Yankees to their place in the World Series. Could they succeed and meet the expectations of their suffering fans and America's most demanding owner?
