Nettie Dupre unwillingly finds herself the sole support of her family. She would like to leave home and find her life in Canada; however, her town of Blanc Fleur in Normandy is under German occupation. Rolfe Wieber, the new commandant, takes a special interest in the young woman. Because of well-meaning, but misguided help from her friends, Nettie is forced into close contact with this man she loathes. With no alternatives available to her, Nettie sets out to befriend the new commandant, but fears he may discover her terrible secretor does he already know?
