As more teachers find students having difficulty reading and understanding scientific concepts in textbooks, they are always looking for new ways to stimulate student learning. Glacial Remains discusses the evidence that the northern reaches of the United States were covered by glacial ice that melted 8,000?10,000 years ago. It easily provides teachers with content about a portion of geological history that is not well represented in national textbooks. Since Glacial Remains is discussing that evidence in a story form, students will read and remember the information more easily than they would from a textbook. Reading teachers will also be able to use Glacial Remains in their classes, especially as they coordinate their teaching with the science teachers. Suggestions of activities from Glacial Remains that might be used in the classroom are also included.
