Driven to Succeed: My Father's Indomitable Survival Spirit
June Davis
This book tells the story of an ordinary man who overcame numerous obstacles through hard work, determination and courage. As a child he was forced to work full time in the sugar industry. Yet, he persevered and went on to have a promising future. He and his wife produced nine very successful children. Rupert Davis is the embodiment of Jamaica's history: son of a white overseer on a plantation, black mother, Indian grandmother and great-grandfather a slave from the Ashanti tribe of Ghana. Thus he is an embodiment of Jamaica's motto: Out of Many One People. He also served in the Royal Air Force during World War 2, and had POW's under his command. After he retired from his job, he became the chairman of many boards and also became a Justice of the Peace.
