The Bed in the Tree
Christian Stannow
HJK hauls his camera around the world. He is a TV filmmaker and struggles to realize the basically unattainable dream of creating a really unique TV program, the definitive work of art. This time he has designs on comparing Odysseus, Robinson Crusoe and the Indian chief Cochise ? but on the boat to Ithaca he meets two adventurous and mystical American women and, after that, it becomes more difficult to follow the original recording plan. Through time and space the hero pursues his subjects, through folk-tale, myth and absolutely normal everyday reality. There are stops in Texas and the Virgin Islands; he meets Circe in Los Angeles to retrieve a lost roll of film. In the background of these exotic adventures is the Danish silent film epoch of the 20's. The stories take place around us, ancient, ever new. The Odyssey is always alive for many of us ? the journey, the sea, the return.
