Born in India in the early 1980s into a strong Christian faith, Nerissa was forced to fit in, so she wouldn't stand out. Misunderstood at home, bullied at school and with no words to describe how she felt, Nerissa led a confused, lonely and alienated life.




Torn between expectations of being 'the good Indian, Christian girl' and a desperate yearning to live her own truth, Nerissa struggles to find a way to make peace with who she really is, and embarks on a journey of self-discovery thousands of miles away from India in a country she now calls home.




This book is the story of Nerissa's life - the failures and triumphs of growing up as a gay woman of colour. A journey of resilience and courage to break through generations of conditioning, and rediscover and rebuild herself to live authentically as who she was always meant to be.
