When the storms came, the lightning struck so quickly that the thunder could not keep up with it. The houses shook, quivering and gasping like they were drowning in the screaming wind. The storms drove us down, away from the desolation of what had always been, into the safety of the subway lines. There, in the darkness, the demons attacked us. I am the only one left. I carry little supplies and far too many memories, but I am determined to defy the desecration of my people. I will make it to the surface and I will see what future there is to be had there. I will survive, even alone. No matter what.
