The lives of women living in North Carolina during the colonial era were greatly restricted by the demands of family, home, and social custom. Nevertheless, twelve courageous women gave food, refuge, medical assistance and physical aid to patriot soldiers. Some carried messages behind enemy lines, some made gunpowder, others hid patriots or risked their lives to warn of approaching enemy troops, and some gave their lives. This is the story of twelve brave daughters of North Carolina in their fight for American independence.
