Mark Twain on Potholes and Politics: Letters to the Editor - Mark Twain and His Circle
Gary Scharnhorst
Mark Twain on Potholes and Politics, edited by Gary Scharnhorst, collects more than a hundred letters that Mark Twain wrote to newspaper editors over a period of some forty years on a variety of subjects, such as woman suffrage, potholes, literary piracy and other scams, slow mail delivery, police corruption, capital punishment, and the removal of Huck Finn from libraries. Most of them are hilarious letters of public protest, often penned in sarcastic response to articles Twain read in his morning newspaper. This addition to the Mark Twain and His Circle series recovers a large body of Twain's neglected and even unknown writings.
