A genre-bending mix of adventure, fantasy, horror, history and magical realism. The Kingdom of Kandy tells a modern-day parable of love and belief, staged amidst a backdrop of violence, poverty and inhumanity. The story, set in 2008, but which has its roots way back in the 1770?s at the time of the Bengal famine, is loosely played out in the slums of Kolkata to which Robin and Tracy are mysteriously drawn. The abject dwellers of those Anglian slums show an unhinging belief in the couple, but so do some of the folk from the Anglian Fort. Have they really returned, is it really them? Very soon even Robin and Tracy are wondering who, and what, they are. But, before they are able to get to the bottom of the strange suspicions, they are cornered. They have nowhere to run to. The two adventurers suffer an horrific few days, before rekindling relationships which had long been forgotten; with the local witch; with the hierarchy and spirit of the secret society which has been plundering the World for over two hundred years; with the angelic Saint Catherine; and with God Almighty. The Kingdom of Kandy, which looks inside the day-to-day industry of God, tells of a violent and cruel World in which man eats man, and in which you must never judge the story by the cover. What you see is not what you get, certainly in the case of the vile and secretive society of the Chi Bantri. It turns out be a long and drawn out task to remove the society, especially since God has to work by her own restrictive rules, and by the direction of her own emancipated conscience.
