The Writivism Anthology 2013 heralds the entry onto the literature landscape, of a generation of young writers born after 1986. After a competition and a writing workshop with Zukiswa Wanner, Beatrice Lamwaka, Constance Obonyo and Okwiri Oduor, the writers were placed under the mentorship of Abubakar Adam Ibrahim, Emmanuel Iduma, Ukamaka Evelyn Olisakwe, Dami Ajayi, Richard Ali and Novuyo Rosa Tshuma. The results of the elaborate process coordinated by the Centre for African Cultural Excellence is this slim collection of new flash fiction from emerging Ugandan writers. The tales range from a gay man sleeping with a female friend of his, leading us to question the boundaries of sexuality, to a divorce emanating from memories of a suicide. With these stories, the post 1986 generation are pushing the boundaries, tackling issues of gender equality, questioning ableism, doubting sisterhood, spinning old tales in fresh voices and exploring new territories. There is love, there is pain, there is debate, there is everything else that is rarely said of the new generation of Ugandan and African writing. The authors of the Writivism Anthology 2013 stories are: Mildred Apenyo; Kathryn Kazibwe; Nassanga Rashidah Sarah; Emmeline Bisiikwa; Angella Sandra Namwase; Nadweny Faith Naome; Anthea Paelo; Kirabo Nora; Gloria Kemabazi; Muhwezi Simpson; Paul Kisakye; Emmanuel Sebbaggala; Solomon Manzi; Robert Ssempande To learn about the work of the Center for African Cultural Excellence please visit www.cace-afica.org
