In 1906 sixteen year old Julius Mayer travels to Vienna to join the Austro-Hungarian Army as an army cadet. There he meets three other young men who will become his closest friends as they train to become Sons of the Eagle, soldiers in the Austro-Hungarian Army. As the Great War looms on the horizon Julius, his friends and their families prepare for a war which will change a continent, kill millions of men and eventually see the defeat of their army. This story portrays the personal lives of these families, their conflicts, their loves and the ultimate scars that will never be erased at the end of the war.
