This fictional account tells the story of violent extremists who block advancement of black American citizens. It brings into focus people who struggle for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness in an undeclared war with racists who fight to deny them all three. Though a novel, the story is based on true events and brings to life people on both sides of the battle lines. It follows a newspaper reporter from Norfolk, Virginia, to Memphis, Tennessee, and beyond as he attempts to piece together organized treachery and violence in the south that reaches into high places where powerful people destroy all who oppose them.
