Silent Destiny J Robert Whittle
Silent Destiny
J Robert Whittle
Marc Notes: 8; Electronic monograph.; Issued also in print format. Biographical Note: We are a Canadian husband/wife author team who live in Victoria, British Columbia situated in the beautiful Canadian Pacific Northwest. Our adventure in writing truly began as an accident, but Robert's 'accident' (a mangled knee) had already happened about 30 years before, during his career as a British mining engineer heading a First Response to Disaster Team across Europe/E. Asia. He never wanted to be a writer, never thought of it actually, until I asked him to begin his memoirs as a diversion while recuperating from leg surgery in 1994. That first surgery sadly led to many more due to contracting the staph bacteria that was the forerunner to the flesh-eating disease. This became a much different type of fight-for-his-life than he had ever experienced in his dangerous job. It also produced three novels, one of which we self-published in 1998 ... and that was only the beginning!Publisher Marketing: Have you ever received a phone call that changed your life? Emma Walters, a Canadian professor at the University of Victoria, is about to have that experience. Up until now, she has lived an extraordinarily quiet life with very few complications, but that is all about to change. Summoned to Edinburgh, Scotland in the winter of 2006, she learns she will inherit a very unique and old Scottish estate ... if she agrees to certain unusual conditions attached to the legacy. It was all rather unbelievable to Emma, yet certainly worthy of investigation. In Scotland, she meets Alexander Wallace who explains the remarkable connection between their two families who have been inseparably linked since the events of the Scottish Wars of Independence in the early 14th century. She is told that without William Wallace's influence, inheriting the Traymore title and its substantial estate, would not have been possible. She finds herself tossed into the depths of a 700 year-old Scottish mystery concerning the man known as Braveheart and a previously unknown family. She begins to be haunted by bewildering dreams and stories of missing artifacts that could very well be found by her as she fits the description of a long ago prophesy. Knowing nothing about Scottish history, Alex seeks to enlighten her and she soon realizes that he has a vested interest in her decision. Meanwhile, her appetite for history increases and she becomes fascinated by the potential involvement of the crusading knights known as the Hospitallers. She becomes wary of accepting this inheritance of such immense responsibility ... and her time for decision is quickly running out. Duty bound, it falls on Alex's shoulders to persuade her that the benefits of the 21st century will easily override her historical demons ... despite being far from convinced himself. This is the 4th collaboration by husband and wife team, J. Robert Whittle and Joyce Sandilands. Contributor Bio: Whittle, J Robert J. Robert Whittle was born in Yorkshire, England; the eldest son of 10 children. An entrepreneur from an early age, he wasn't to know that this was merely preparing him for a much later writing career. He played professional cricket while attending Leeds University and became a mining engineer leading a first-response-to-disaster team for 12 years for the British Coal Board. By 1963, following several serious mine accidents in Europe, Whittle moved to Australia and finally to Canada where he would meet his second wife, Joyce Sandilands. While recuperating from a knee surgery and infection (1994-98), he discovered he enjoyed writing. Joyce encouraged him, and he completed his first three novels during those four years. Robert's name is now well known to countless thousands of readers worldwide and particularly in BC and across the USA who meet him at his market stand in Victoria BC. Many claim that his family friendly novels are the best they've ever read. By 2011, Whittle and Sandilands had produced ten novels, 2 of which are bestsellers. Joyce Sandilands is a seventh generation Canadian, third generation from Victoria, BC. A war baby born posthumously after her Australian father made the ultimate sacrifice in WWII, she feels her entire life has been shaped in a unique way. Moving to Australia at the age of one, she and her mother spent 18 months with her father's family before returning to Canada. At the age of seven, her mother remarried and, by 12, Joyce had discovered reading, singing, and girl's groups such as Job's Daughters and CGIT where she often utilized her newfound abilities. She married, moved to Duncan and had two children, fitting in singing lessons from a German coach who taught her opera, her new love. By 1990, her interest in her family history caused her to begin writing about her fascinating Scottish roots. Now encouraged by Robert, the new man in her life, she was soon to find another use for her writing. Deciding to publish one of his first novels in 1998, she now added the business and secretarial skills she had gained, becoming editor, publisher, webmaster and marketer for their new enterprise. That December, she produced Robert's first book, Lizzie: Lethal Innocence and it became his first of three bestselling novels. Another new adventure had begun. Fortunately, both they, and their fans, were hooked. By 2011, she had produced 12 of their novels and numerous audio products, co-writing three single titles with her husband.
