Unpacking the Boxes of Our Attachments
Randy Bell
In his book Unpacking the Boxes of Our Attachments, Randy Bell posits that our happiness already exists within us, accessible to us if we make the choice to allow it to infuse our life. Instead, we usually choose to prevent our happiness from arising by unconsciously attaching ourselves to those things that inherently create un-happiness for us. Unpacking the Boxes of Our Attachments helps us to understand what these false attachments are, how they exist in our life, and the highly negative impact that they have on our happiness. While building upon Buddhist concepts regarding human suffering, the text uniquely avoids immersion into Buddhist dogma and terminology. Rather, the book illustrates through everyday contemporary language and commonplace examples what such attachments look like, and how they take control of our life. Once we see these negative limitations that we create, we are then guided through steps we can take to break those attachments and allow ourselves to live within the true happiness we seek. In the end, we see that happiness does not come from how the world treats us. It comes from how we choose to perceive the world, and whether we choose to live a life free from the destructive, negative attachments that we create.
