I first heard the story of the Good Samaritan as a young boy in a Sunday School class. The story stuck with me as much as anything I recall from the scriptures we learned back then. As I grew to manhood I did my best to apply the principles laid out by this nameless man. But as the years passed it became obvious to me there were some serious pitfalls in attempting to live by the Good Samaritan's creed. I learned the hard way you could be used, abused, injured, and perhaps even killed while trying to help people in need. This realization hit me, like I'm sure it's hit many others, and almost caused me to give up trying to be a helping person. I weathered that crisis of faith, but I came through it a much warier man that I'd been before. I've found I'm not alone in that transition as I blogged and corresponded with people for years as TheWarySamaritan. This book is for those who are struggling and thinking about giving up and it's for those who've weathered their own crisis of faith as a Good Samaritan and have learned to be cautious, re-engage, and press on.
