The book is dedicated to the memory of Max Bochaton. He was "an incorrigible rogue" who was always upsetting the local residents of the scenic Vallee d'Abondance in Haute-Savoie, but at his funeral there was not a dry eye in the house. He was sorely missed - not least by the local Gendarmes... who would now have to devote their attention to stopping other errant motorists on the mountain roads.
