The Rage That Follows
Nathaniel Badertscher
Joren has spent his youth playing on the slopes of the Ymr Mountain, pretending to be a great warrior destined for glory. But as a shepherd's son, his only destiny is to take up a crook and follow in his father's footsteps. All of that changes quickly, though, as Joren begins to have horrific waking nightmares of a face twisted in rage and hate, silently screaming at him. At the same time, a group of legendary warriors from the south, the Knights Seraphin, arrive at the sheepfold, igniting Joren's thirst for adventure and driving his nightmares away. In the days that follow, however, the monster haunting Joren's dreams proves to be all too real. In the dead of night, there's a massacre, prompting the Knights Seraphin to delay their trek northward and help Joren's family in the aftermath. Joren will finally get the chance to go on an adventure and be a hero, but it's the kind of adventure no one asks for, and along the way he'll learn of the terrible price some heroes pay.
