John Steinbeck's The Pearl includes many references to songs that accompany the perceptions of a central character named, Kino. It is important to note that the writer used the term 'song" and as such implied something greater than a single musical note, chord, or phrase. He was referring to a streaming complex of feeling tones-- a melody or song. Such streaming influences from the unconscious may impact an individual's perception, judgment, decisions, and conclusions often before they are able to explain their reaction. While many can relate to such experiences, understanding the source and purpose could enrich the experience. How the unconsciously inspired influences impact us depends upon our individual adult maturity, functional style, and attitude. An example of such influences are regularly employed in film and stage plays. To unify an influence among individual audience members, a well developed film or stage play's musical score serves to bring together audience feeling tones to support a scene. It may dramatically increase the viewing experience across a wide range of individual styles. This essay introduces the conceptual tools to build an understanding and appreciation for such influences. The essay could be used as supporting evidence for greater funding for the arts in educatio
