As we stepped off the bus, the wide-eyed children looked at us as if we were aliens. Even though my skin was the same color as theirs, the truth was I had come from another world. Not only had I come from America, but from a background where it was not common for a little black girl from the south to go on a mission trip, especially to the land of her ancestors. My path to this place was something I could never have dreamed or imagined.
