From the time of the Flood, when Noah released a dove to check the level of water still on the land, to poetry, doves are literal and symbolic. They were used as sacrifices at the temple and also used to describe the Holy Spirit. This story is an imaginative conversation between a mother and a son dove about what it means to truly be set free by the ultimate sacrifice of Christ Jesus.
