Born in the suburbs of Chicago Illinois at the Cook County Memorial Hospital, John Michael Rand was diagnosed with poison in his blood due to his liver which turned his skin yellow. As a result, he had to have a complete blood transfusion that later caused his brain to become slightly damaged. With a reading level of that of a 5th Grader and an IQ of 67 he was later put on Social Security. Nevertheless, it didn't hold him back from writing and keeping the faith that his dream of being an author would someday come true.
