It is 1940, and 14 year old Oliver Harrington's world is turned upside down when the pilot of a damaged German bomber makes a decision which has far reaching consequences. The train of events which the ensuing disaster sets in motion results in the London schoolboy taking paths he would never have imagined. Set against the background of the Battle of Britain and the following years, we follow Oliver as he somehow completes his education and finally realises what his life work is destined to be. Along the way he meets new friends (and a few criminals), and there is the inevitable mix of love, tragedy, difficulty and comedy which make life what it is.
