"But you shall remember Jehovah your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, so that He may confirm His covenant which He has sworn to your fathers, as it is today" (Deuteronomy 8:18). In other words God was telling the Jews in the wilderness, "Long before you were born I and your father Abraham had a covenant, and it is on the basis of this covenant that I relate with you, have protected you, and intends to prosper you - and the reason for the prosperity is the sustenance and the propagation of this covenant." So in this context the phrase, "so that He may confirm His covenant which He has sworn to your fathers, as it is today" makes more sense. Really the foundation of true prosperity is the ability to exercise spiritual dominion under God, and the ability to exercise physical dominion over the earth. The call of Abraham was the beginning of an articulate preparation to welcome the Messiah, who would bruise the head of Satan for attempting to establish a rival covenant. When Christ was crucified, was buried, resurrected and ascended to heaven, He gave the church the eternal basis of the power to exercise both spiritual and physical dominion.
