When two children wish for a Fairy Godmother they get their wish. And although she turns out to be exactly what they needed, the Fairy Godmother who comes to them is not at all what they expected. She doesn't have a flowing blue gown. She doesn't have long blonde hair and she doesn't carry a sparkling magic wand. Instead, she has allergies, unkempt hair, wears a baggy dress and carries a baseball bat. This is a fable about wonder, awareness, imagination, possibility and how refusing to be limited by our expectations can make an important and lasting difference in our lives. The "Conversational Questions" following this fable give children and the adults who read with them the opportunity to talk about their own expectations and to think more deeply about them.
