Sawyer Calhoun's beloved dog Chili D. dies and finds himself in Shambala where he meets old friends from his neighborhood. He has never been anywhere without Sawyer, so when his friends tell him he can actually see her in person again if he can locate all of her previously departed pets living in Shambala, he immediately begins his journey back to her. Chili D. and his friends, "The Faithful", travel over mountains, through rivers, across the ocean, to beaches, glaciers, frozen lakes, and underground cave systems to first find the only previous pet of Sawyer's that Chili ever knew. Lucy Marie Jones Calhoun, a 17-year-old black cat, died when Chili was only two. An unexpected hitch in the plan keeps him from getting to her, though, and he is scared that all his hope of getting back to Sawyer is lost. If he learned one thing from living with Sawyer for nine whole years, though, it is that hope is never lost - it is found or it finds you.
