At the tail end of the Seventies, a disillusioned distance runner leaves college and embarks on a cross-country journey to find his former roommate, who has become involved in a religious cult in San Francisco. His traveling companion and bosom buddy is on his own quest to become an Olympic-class racewalker. Caught between the counterculture and the cold cruel world, they make their way by relying on each other's friendship -- along with a steady stream of bong hits and Grateful Dead songs. A funny, heartfelt, honest tale whose voice has its roots in the works of writers like Salinger, Kerouac and Vonnegut.
