Retiring from his profession and moving to a new isolated desert home the man believes he will now live the life he has always dreamed of. However, a local man is faced with daunting and frightening legal issues and he learns that his new neighbor is a lawyer. In desperation he seeks him out for help with almost no means to pay for his defense. Against his better judgment, the man takes the case and ends up engaged in a wild investigation, in which it is discovered that his client's own son has engaged in a scheme to defraud his father. A scheme that leads to uncovering dangerous, menacing business relationships. While engaged in investigating the case, the lawyer also learns he has a terminal life threatening disease. The story runs on two tracks. One follows the legal case and the potential frightening legal consequences to a father who appears to have been defrauded by his son; and the other, a trip by horseback to a desert mountain range on the United States/Mexican border. This mountain trip provides welcome relief to the tension and complexities of the courtroom. The beauty and adventure of the mountain trip is described in detail. Have you have ever wondered what you do if you were suddenly told that your time on this earth would be ending soon? Would you live safely and carefully, or risk it all just to know that you can do, and be, that person that you have never been but always wanted to be. This is a story of just such a situation. Taking an early retirement, expecting one thing, and getting something entirely different. From the dark tension of the Federal courthouse to the solitary silence of the Sonoran desert he continues on, knowing that his time is short.
