Japan, 1866, a time of sweeping change and open rebellion. Under threat of subjugation from the industrialized West, the non-hereditary Samurai Clans demand action from the ruling Tokugawa Shogunate. Enter William Merrick of the American Consulate in Hakodate, who is tasked to rescue a group of shipwrecked Americans en route to Edo.
