If Renee had known what this day would bring he would have stayed in bed. His line of work dealt with facts, not hocus pocus. For Pete's sake, this was 1943. The old-timers in the region still believed in the Cajun ways of hexes and curses. Voodoo was still around, but only in the back swamps. At least that is what he thought until a floater turned up in the bayou with no arms and only one mangled leg.
