Travis Rosser, Secretary of the Territory of Mmnesota. CHAPTER 31. An Act to prohibit the introduction of Liquor into the Territory purchased from the March 4, 1854. Sioux Indians. Be it enacted by the Legislative Assembly of the Territory of Minnesota: Penalty. That if any person or persons shall sell, exchange or give, barter or dispose of any spirituous liquor, or wine, in any portion of this Territory, lying West of the Mississippi river, and within the limits of the lands purchased under tho last Sioux Treaties, such person or persons, shall forfeit and pay the sum of five hundred dollars, to be recovered by an action of debt by any person suing for the same before any court having competent jui isdiction. Sec. 2. If any person shall introduce, or attempt to introduce Penalty, any spirituous liquors or wines, into any portion of this Territory, as prescribed in the first section of this act, except such supplies as shall be necessary for the officers of the United States and troops of the service, under the direction of the War Department, such person shall forfeit and pay a sum not exceeding three hundred dollars. Right of search, Sec. 3. Any officer of the military or Indian Department of the cove!-cd.'1oW rc" n'tet States, who may have reason to suspect, or is informed, that any white person or Indian is about to introduce, or has introduced any spiritous liquor or wine, into any portion of the Territory before mentioned, in violation of the second section of this act, it shall be lawful for such officer of the military or Indian Department, to cause the boats, stores, packages, and place of deposile of such person, within...
