'The trial or, the history of Charles Horton, Esq. .. By a gentleman.' was first issued in London in 1772. Thomas Vernor remained at this address until 1776 (Plomer). The titlepages of vols.1-3 declare: 'in four volumes'; this description is dropped from the titlepages of vols.4-5, and the price is raised from twelve to fifteen shillings.
