In this first installment of Dandelion Epiphany, a fictional series, we take John Greevy's hand and wade together into his unique world as a dad of a little boy who society views as profoundly physically disabled. We feel his excitement at becoming a dad, concerns for his baby's well-being and countless joys of raising Matthew in spite of his special needs. We even experience John grappling with how to find any solace when his identity has shattered right under him after losing Matthew. John discovers his own inner strength by writing in isolation about him. Through John's writing, we get to know Matthew as a mischievous, bright and fun-loving boy. John's memories of him are vivid and timeless: being immersed in a childhood summer day in the mud, making a snowman with friends, watching cartoons just in his boxer shorts and dealing with the giddy uncertainty of the first day of kindergarten. We find in John's reflections a guide for how to love with honor and patience.
