Street Games: Memories of a St. Louis Childhood, the Fifties & Sixties
Frederick Buck
The idea for writing this book has been evolving for sometime. By the time I was a young man in the Eighties it became apparent that most children no longer roamed the streets and back alleys creating their own fun. I began to understand that life had changed rapidly, and the many things we did as kids were no longer part of growing up. I wondered if these games and activities would someday be forgotten. This raised a question. Had anyone ever recorded these pastimes so they would be remembered? I finally decided to go a head and give it a try. What you are about to read is one person's account of those games and that place in time. Many people have shared their memories, and to them I am most grateful. Their enthusiasm for this project helped to drive me onward. My passion for my wonderful childhood has given me a great desire to share these memories and preserve them in the writing of this book.
