Can a hard life of harvester cutting wheat from Texas to Canada change a cocky, confident, self-indulgent eighteen-year-old boy and make a man out of him? Robby Stanley, a mother-protected teenager from a small Nebraska community, lived that life. In one short summer, his life as one of Pete Snyder's Dirt Dogs included a slowly evolving and deeply felt love of the boss's daughter; surviving severe weather ranging from tornadoes to drought; an encounter with an unfriendly Sheriff; and, the vindictive adversary who swore revenge against Robby follows the crew for most of their dusty trip northward. The story is full of strong dynamic characters that will make you laugh, cry, rejoice, and sometimes experience fear.
