Sally at ten years was a tomboy, on Barclay Mountain. Barclay was once a booming coal mining area. In the 1930''s when work was hard to come by, her father moved the family back to Barclay. He had a job digging coal. Sally''s family consisted of mom and dad, a sister, Annie the cow. Her sister was Older and wasn''t around much. So Sally, as a child, spent her days in adventures on Barclay Mountain. The time frame here is from 1939 to 1943. The Great Depression was coming to an end. America was at war with Hitler in Germany. A former editor of The Daily Review. Staley Clark, had written a small book, called The Romance of Old Barclay. In his book he wrote reports of what things Were like in the days when Barclay was a boom town, Sally had seen another report in The Daily Review, in the past, that said the Barclay picnic grounds were in decline, and that no weddings ever had been held there. That was not so. During Sally''s time on Barclay Mountain, her sister married, Horace Mott on the Band stand at the Barclay Picnic Grounds.
