What started out a few years ago as one man's anger, despair, and helpless feelings over the sight of so much of the countryside being destroyed for track housing, strip malls, and, shopping centers, eventually became channeled into this story as a way to express his frustration and take some action. Initially written for little ones in hopes the story might encourage an interest and appreciation for nature and animals, the story soon became one of friendship, loss, despair, and finally unending love to be enjoyed by children of all ages. So come along and take a journey through a wonderful world of nature and animals, whose struggles against the forces of modern society are being reenacted every day all across the country. Oh, and there are a couple of very special little children who want to change what they see as wrong in their little part of the universe and try to protect the animals who have become their new best friends. As in most of our daily lives, some things do not go as we would like them to go and darkness seems to be our constant companion but in the end we usually find some rays of sunshine. So too with the story of Manny the Bear where friendship involves a sacrifice and sorrow but eventually gives way to awareness, discovery, and hope.
