Life in a small farming community in Northwestern Ohio wasn't easy for Nathan Mercer. That's because he was very self-conscious of his height and his stuttering, and because by nature he had the uncanny ability to bond physically and mentally and spiritually with not only humans, but with all creations, which in turn didn't set to well with some people. What is more, in the spring of 1955, at the age of eleven, Nathan experienced the phenomenon of "inwardness" which would not only control and direct his life through his adolescents, his first love, college, Vietnam, and his teaching career; it would also entice him to witness to his family, friends, and acquaints (when asked) his knowledge of the purpose of our being on this earthly plane.
