When Mac and Jimmy make a field trip to do some research they didn't expect to meet three gulls that can talk, stranger still the three gulls tell them that they come from a parallel world. On a damp November morning in Blackthorn Woods the gulls persuade the boys to help them to return to their own world. The boys agree only to find themselves being transported to the very same world where they encounter animals that talk, the infamous Starling gang and a confrontation with the local racketeer in their bid to rescue an old adversary of theirs, the obnoxious Freddie White. This was the beginning of a journey of adventure that took them through different dimensions looking for a way home.
