This is an honest account of struggle. As I wrote, I received spiritual healing. When I reread, I am renewed- every time! I suppose the same could happen for you. To those who deny their struggles, I pray this facilitates your coming to terms with reality. For those who contently remain under their struggle, I pray this serves as a rude awakening. This is a call for change. Part One was mostly written in high school. My main focus was on boys and self-esteem. I never thought of myself as a poet, but wrote however I felt at the moment. This was my own secret form of therapeutic expression and marks a time of experimentation. Fortunately, at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, expression is anything but secret. I discovered a world of poetry slams, talent shows, and open mics. Spoken word artists taught me that there is a style and structure to writing. Part Two took shape as I took the identity of a poet with greater skill and confidence. My focus expanded to include a stronger emphasis on Jesus Christ in my past and present life. As a familiar face in the poetry scene, my sole purpose became to testify and glorify God. By Part Three, I aimed to be God's poet. I recognized that He writes through me when I am willing. There was peace in letting this book go. What you hold in your hands is my burden and my gift. These poems are the chronicles of my life. I pray they help you write a positive ending to yours. To be continued. . . .
