This book tells the tale of M'nodanok, an orphaned Native American boy of the Abenaki tribe who was raised by wild animals in the forest surrounding Mount Monadnock in Jaffrey, New Hampshire. Then, as he grows older, he meets and falls in love with Wenunchus whom he eventually marries as they travel westward to meet with King Phillip and from there northward to the village of Odanok, Quebec, where he dies at the age of one hundred and t wenty-nine aftter a fierce battle in which their entire village was massacred by Robert Rogers and his rangers in the pre-dawn hours of 6 October, 1759.
