Amy, a Burlington, Vermont paramedic, is troubled by bouts with sleepwalking, and the strains of her job. Spiraling out of control in a moment of exhausted frustration, she makes a mistake that could cost her everything. This error serves as precursor to suspicion by a detective, and drags Amy into a maelstrom of self-doubt and despondency, launching her into the labyrinths of her own mind. Meanwhile, her best friend, a psychic with a degree in Criminal Psychology, tries desperately to unravel the mystery, and prove Amy's innocence, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. As the story unfolds, the players include a Japanese hotel owner and his drug-addicted son, a father who causes the death of his children, an abusive man, bitter from failure, a serial killer who leaves a humiliating gesture as a calling card, a biker gang that deals in drugs and intimidation, and a dead father Amy never knew.
