A Chapter of Accidents Emily E. Bands
A Chapter of Accidents
Emily E. Bands
Elizabeth and Virginia McAdams had always enjoyed the serene beauty of their Prince Edward Island life. But in 1864, the girls received news of their brother's death, as he was fighting far away in the American Civil War. Without the money from his work, the McAdams family was forced to sell everything they could part with to keep their house, and Libby and Ginny were hired out as servants to the wealthy McFelim family. While working for the McFelims, the girls befriend James, the oldest son of the family. When he leaves for the University, Libby and Ginny are free to stop their work as servants. Ginny, ambitious and clever, goes off to a new college for women, and Libby becomes a governess who spends all her free time writing. With good humor and vivacious spirits, Ginny and Libby take on the thrills, struggles, and disappointments everyone must face growing up, and strive to transcend the incidents and misadventures that befall them in A Chapter of Accidents.
