The Biblcal story of the death of King David is a powerful drama of courtly intrigue (I Kings, ch.1,2). The Temple uses the characters and circumstances of the story as the basis for a romantic comedy. As King David lies dying, Abishag, a fair maiden, is brought into the palace to lie with him because "his body gave off no heat."
