Originally published in 1880. PREFACE: This work is intended partly, but not entirely, for the use of students preparing for musical examinations. The Universities of Cambridge and London set papers in Acoustics at their examinations for musical degrees, and a paper in Acoustics also forms part of the Cambridge Middle Class Examinations. The object of the present book is to give, in one volume, a good general view of the subject. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900's and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive.
