It is 1984 in Melbourne, Australia, and a young rookie cop is unwittingly drawn into a murky quagmire of armed robbery, murder and covert police corruption. Fresh from the Victoria Police Academy, trainee police constable Chris Denning is sent to work at Braybrook, in Melbourne's western suburbs. Here he encounters the raw edge of unconventional policing where good times can be had, and rules were made to be broken. A motor car accident, an epidemic of bank robberies, his sex-life a shambles and a muscle car with a dark history, all combine to send Chris' career aspirations into a power dive. While his sister languishes in the drug dens of Kathmandu and his mother befriends the local priest, Chris discovers that life can become death in under a fraction of a second. When Chris and his partner stumble upon a hold-up in progress, all hell breaks loose. In the ensuing chase and shoot-out, his partner is seriously wounded and an innocent bystander becomes a casualty. Chris is knocked out cold, but not before he sees who is behind the bandit's mask. As witnesses vanish and bodies begin piling up, Chris sets out to prove to his sergeant, the legendary Brian 'Bull' Murray, that the person they thought was a friend is really the enemy. But when Chris is suspended from duty on trumped-up charges, he is left with only one option - he must confront the villain, and he must do it alone. With the help of his best mate since childhood, Donnie Hibbard, Chris concocts a plan. And only one thing will come of that. More trouble. Much more trouble.
