After his wife, Emelia, passes away in a tragic car accident, Truman Gillmore is devastated - had they not been arguing moments before, she might never have gotten into that car. Now the guilt is weighing heavily on him and the only way to escape his past and move on with his life is to sell the home he and Emelia shared in Middlebourne, West Virginia and move to a small town in Ohio. Truman cannot, however, leave without first offering his precious Emmy an explanation in the form of a letter. Six months later, as he is settling into his new life as the owner and operater of a bait-and-tackle shop, Truman once again experiences the shock of his loss when he receives a response from Emelia.
