Daydreams, fantasies, and lies were the substance of Chuck's life. Lies got him the closest thing to a decent job he'd seen. Now, those same lies caught up to him, taking away any opportunities for redemption. Nobody else believed his lies, and now Chuck quit believing them too.
All he has now are tattered fantasies, and they won't feed him. At this point his daydreams transform into visions of his ancestors, and bring with them the promise of living out a fantasy. These visions and their promise are not gifts. The price may be his very existence just when he finds a reason to live as well as someone to live for.
