Another Christmas Carol
Perry Waddell
A comedy play for improvisors combining scripted scenes with scenes improvised from audience suggestions! Another Christmas Carol begins with the familiar scene in which Bob Cratchit sits at his desk freezing because his boss, Scrooge, a man whose name has become synonymous with miserly and stingy, will not allow him more coal for the stove. Mr. Scrooge is busy entering figures in a book when he is interrupted by carolers, whom he promptly chases off with threats of boiling water, then by charity workers who are chased off by the question, ?Are there no more prison work houses?? It?s a cold, dark, polluted and miserable day in London, and despite the extra burden of having Uncle Scrooge as his boss, Bob Cratchit remains in good spirits, even inviting his uncle for Christmas dinner. Audiences know and love this story. They love to see Scrooge transformed into a new man. Another Christmas Carol invites the audience to help with the transformation by soliciting suggestions before the appearance of each ghost. The suggestions are incorporated into scenes improvised by the other actors. Audiences love to see how their suggestions are used in the stories of Scrooge?s childhood and later life. Adapted from the original story, Another Christmas Carol uses some delightful, yet forgotten prose from Charles Dickens. The play comes complete with script, improvisation tips, and suggestion sheets for the stage manager to enter the audience suggestions.
